THE  VISION  THAT  BROUGHT  OATS TO  THE  BREAKFAST  TABLE

In 1855, Henry Parsons Crowell was born to a wealthy business family in Cleveland, Ohio.

But when he was 15, his father died of tuberculosis.Before Henry had time to process the loss, he was diagnosed with the same disease.Doctors told him that his best hope was the dry, open air of the West. So Henry spent years travelling on horseback through Colorado, Wyoming, California, and Montana.

He was still a teenager, fighting for his life far from home.By the time he was 25, doctors said he had recovered. But the long struggle had taken much of his youth. He had never finished high school.

Though grateful to be alive, Henry felt lost and uncertain about his future. Then one day, he attended a revival led by D. L. Moody. There, Henry felt a calling to serve God.

But because Henry had never completed his education, seminary was not an option. Still, he believed there must be another way to serve God.

Henry prayed, "I may not be able to preach, but I can become a successful businessman. God, if You give me the means, I promise to use them in your service."

Henry asked God to show him what to do.

As he prayed, God showed him a vision. At the time, most people considered oats food for horses. Grocery stores sold them from large barrels kept on the floor. But in the vision, Henry saw his oats packaged in cardboard boxes and placed on grocery-store shelves.

God showed him that oats could become a healthy breakfast for people, not just feed for horses. Over the next several years, Henry worked tirelessly to develop rolled oats.

But creating the product was only part of the challenge. He also had to convince people that oats were not just food for horses. Henry began holding public events to introduce them. He handed out free samples and explained their health benefits.

Slowly, people began to see oats in a new way. Before long, rolled oats became a common breakfast in millions of American homes. In time, they also reached families around the world. It is the QUAKER OATS we use today.

As his business grew, Henry remained true to his promise to God. For 40 years, he served as chairman of the board at Moody Bible Institute.

He also gave 70% of his income to Christian causes. Henry had once feared that his lack of education would keep him from serving God. But God gave him another way to fulfill that calling. Henry served Him faithfully through business for the rest of his life.

Like Henry Parson's Crowell God used the daily jobs of ordinary people in the bible to build his kingdom, specifically through FISHERMEN like Peter and Andrew, a TENT MAKER like Paul, and a PHYSICIAN like Luke. He turned their daily skills into powerful tools for His work.

FISHERMEN: Jesus called fishermen to "fish for people," using their patience and teamwork to gather believers.

TENT MAKER: Paul used his handiwork trade to pay for his travels so he would not be a burden to others while sharing the message.

PHYSICIAN: Luke used his medical and writing skills to carefully record the life and acts of Jesus.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10-11)       No matter your profession or role, God has given you a unique platform right where you are.You can reach the neighbours, co-workers, and friends that pastors and missionaries will never meet.

Live to glorify Him in your daily mission field, and give generously to evangelism, justice, and mercy.

God’s Kingdom advances when ordinary believers step forward in faith, trusting that He will work through them for His glory.

God does not need extraordinary people—He uses faithful ones. When believers surrender their limitations to Him, He accomplishes far more than they could ever imagine. God can use your unique skills and circumstances to fulfill a noble purpose, even when traditional paths are closed to you.

Faithfulness in daily work and stewardship transforms everyday business into a powerful channel for doing good.

Trust God through life’s greatest hardships. Use your talents faithfully in everyday work. Dedicate your success to sow in god’s kingdom by helping others.
